The U.S. Healthcare & Life Science market is the world’s largest and ranked the highest by the Trade Council in terms of export potential for Danish life science companies. In 2020, the Danish life science sector exported $7.45 billion in goods to the United States, which represents the largest share of total Danish exports to the U.S.

The opportunity for further growth exists based on projections that health expenditures in the US are due to increase to 19.7 percent of GDP in 2028. This growth is driven by changing patient demographics and an increase in chronic diseases, both of which create high demand for new and innovative products, technologies and solutions to improve care and control costs.

Danish life science companies are recognized internationally for innovative products and services in support of sustainable healthcare goals. Danish companies are leading in the research and treatment of diseases such as diabetes, obesity, mental health, skin disorders and hearing health as well as driving innovation in emerging clusters in medical devices, digital & telehealth, and operational hospital solutions.

The Health and Life Science team works to assist Danish life science companies entering the U.S. market, facilitate knowledge sharing and drive innovation forward in the hospital sector where Danish companies engage with life science clusters in the Boston-Cambridge, San Francisco and Houston areas.
