SILICON VALLEY: TechPlomacy Political Internship | Application Number: TEC-1

The Position

Do you want to help place Denmark at the forefront of the global debate on the consequences of technology for society and foreign policy?

With offices in Copenhagen and Silicon Valley, the Tech Ambassador of Denmark and the surrounding global team contribute to rethinking the traditional way of conducting diplomacy. As a first-mover, Denmark and the TechPlomacy initiative have attracted significant national and international attention.

The TechPlomacy team’s location in Silicon Valley provides unique access to one of the world’s most dynamic and innovative ecosystems. You will have the opportunity to engage closely with some of the world’s leading tech companies, think tanks, elite universities, and representations of other influential countries. In addition, you will gain insight into the political agenda surrounding the transformative impact of technology and digitization on Denmark and the international community.

Your Role

As a Political Intern, your primary focus will be to support the team with analysis and the planning and execution of specific TechPlomacy projects, while gaining insight into modern diplomacy in an innovative and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze current and future technology trends and their impact on Danish society, politics, and the economy
  • Contribute to the Tech Representation’s work with implementing the strategy for Denmark’s technological diplomacy
  • Support the development, planning, and execution of specific Tech Diplomacy projects
  • Assist with cultivating and maintaining the Silicon Valley network through participation in events and meetings with leading tech companies, international organizations, and university environments
  • Conduct research and prepare input and draft material for mission reports
  • Take part in the preparation of incoming and outgoing visits, including ministerial visits and the Tech Representation’s international consultations
  • Answer inquiries and assist with the preparation of internal and external meetings

What Do We Expect from You?

The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills and the ability to understand complex foreign and technology policy issues. You approach assignments with curiosity, structure, and initiative, and are comfortable working towards tight deadlines.

You are able to formulate and communicate complex messages clearly in both English and Danish. As part of an agile unit, it is important that you actively contribute ideas and are able to execute them effectively.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. However, the position is particularly aimed at students within the social sciences or candidates with experience from government agencies or political organizations.

Your Role

As a Communications Intern, your primary focus will be to raise awareness of Denmark’s tech diplomacy and its underlying strategy. Public diplomacy is a strategic priority, and your contribution will therefore be of great importance to the work of the Representation.

Our target groups are both Danish and international, making it a strong advantage if you have insight into and understanding of how to communicate effectively across different audiences. As part of the team, you will also carry out a number of practical tasks to help ensure that the Tech Representation operates professionally at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the production of graphic material and written content for the Representation’s digital platforms, including LinkedIn and the website
  • Support the Tech Representation’s work with implementing the strategy for Denmark’s technological diplomacy
  • Assist with cultivating and maintaining the Silicon Valley network through participation in events and meetings with leading tech companies, international organizations, and university environments
  • Answer inquiries and assist with the preparation of internal and external meetings
  • Contribute to research and prepare input and drafts for mission reports, which are a central part of the foreign service’s work
  • Assist with and prepare incoming and outgoing visits, including ministerial visits and the Tech Representation’s international consultations

What Do We Expect from You?

The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator across written, visual, and social media formats. You should be able to communicate complex messages clearly in both English and Danish and tailor them to relevant audiences. Strong emphasis is placed on communication craftsmanship, including the production of high-quality content.

Experience with updating and maintaining web content in a CMS is considered an advantage. Creativity, curiosity, and initiative are also highly valued. As we are an agile unit, it is important that you actively contribute ideas and are able to execute them effectively.

You do not need to be a software engineer to apply. In-depth technical knowledge of areas such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, or coding is not a prerequisite. What matters is a strong interest in politics, communication, and the broad societal impact of technology, combined with a genuine motivation to learn.
