Residence permit

Residence and/or work permits must be obtained before entering Denmark.

Applications for residence and work permits can be submitted at VFS visa application center on a limited basis in New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Houston and San Francisco. 

NB! As of January 9, 2021, the Danish government has introduced new entry restrictions, which apply to travellers from all countries, who wish to enter Denmark. The restrictions are valid until April 20, 2021. If you travel to Denmark, you must present proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 24 hours before entry. NB! As of February 7, 2021 the Danish government has introduced new requirements including mandatory testing and isolation upon arrival in Denmark. The requirements will remain in place until further notice. Please find more information at coronasmitte.dk

NB! Applications for study (incl. Ph.D), internship, volunteers and au pair as well as their accompanying family members will be refused by the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) from 3 February, 2021 as these purposes are currently not considered worthy purposes for entering Denmark. All applications will be handled by the Danish Consulate General in New York.

Since online submission of applications require biometrics to be obtained within 2 weeks from the online submission it is recommended to obtain an appointment with VFS Global prior to the online submission of the application since it can take up to 14 days to obtain an appointment with VFS Global.
