Residence permit

Residence and/or work permits must be obtained before entering Denmark.

Applications for residence and work permits can be submitted at VFS visa application center on a limited basis in New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Houston and San Francisco. 

NB! If you travel to Denmark and you are not fully vaccinated, you must present proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 48 hours before entry. Travelers who are fully vaccinated with an EMA-approved vaccine from the US are exempt from the test and isolation requirements.

Where to apply

All applications will be handled by the Danish Consulate General in New York.

What to submit:

The application form contains a detailed description of how you and the employer should complete the form, and which documents you must attach.

Checklist for submission of residence- and work permit:

Application form completed and signed with supporting documents. Copies of the originals must be in color and size A4 or standard US paper size (8 ½” x 11”). Two-sided copies are not allowed

Original passport must be valid at least 3 months beyond the expiration date of the permit applied for and must have at least two blank pages. The passport will be kept for verification purposes for 2-14 days.

Case Order ID and receipt of payment from www.newtodenmark.dk

FEE to the Consulate General (must submit payment receipt from https://dys.um.dk/permit/) and

FEES to VFS Global (See list of FEES)

Since online submission of applications require biometrics to be obtained within 2 weeks from the online submission it is recommended to obtain an appointment with VFS Global prior to the online submission of the application since it can take up to 14 days to obtain an appointment with VFS Global.
