Two new partnerships
In December, the Embassy of Denmark in Washington D.C. allocated new grants to the Brookings Institution and the Global Equality Fund (GEF). Each partnership will support projects focusing on implications for developing countries, with the objective to promote the social and economic development.
Global Equality Fund
The Global Equality Fund is a public-private partnership that supports innovative and impactful civil society programs that promote and protect the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons around the world. Drawing its strength from the support and partnership of a diverse international coalition of dedicated governments, businesses and foundations, the Fund amplifies local LGBTI voices and movements committed to creating an environment in which human rights and equality are fully embraced and enjoyed by all. The Fund continues to operate in all regions around the world. Since its launch in December 2011, the Fund has provided more than USD 83 million in more than 100 countries through support for a global small grants initiative, an emergency protection and rapid response program and funding for over 50 technical assistance projects. Danish funds specifically are intended to target programs in developing countries in Africa for technical support and capacity building. Brookings Institution
Less than ten years remain for the global community to mobilize the support needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This task is going to be difficult, as it is now evident that the rate of global poverty reduction has slowed down to almost half its pace just a few years ago. At the same time, the world is tackling the climate crisis - which is already showing its effects globally. Accordingly, this research project aims to inform climate and sustainability policies for developing countries, by developing independent, evidence-based policy recommendations and research on challenges to development goals and the threat of climate change, with active engagement of stakeholders from developing countries. As part of the partnership, The Brookings Institution will to undertake a series of research and dialogue activities within two work streams: 1) Climate, Nature and Sustainable Development, and 2) Delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals.
