We are looking for an experienced Technical Wastewater Advisor and a Junior Wastewater Advisor to join our Water Team at the Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago. As part of our water team, you will help strengthen ties between the US and Danish water sectors, assist Danish companies in navigating the US market, and promote Danish know-how and solutions in North America.
You will be part of our North American Water and Environment Team, a group of ten advisors based in Washington, DC, Chicago, Houston, and Silicon Valley, working to create partnerships between Danish and US water companies and utilities. This includes representing and driving the Water Technology Alliance (WTA), an initiative that connects the Danish water sector and companies with US partners to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration to tackle critical water challenges.
Key Responsibilities
For the Technical Wastewater Advisor:
As Technical Wastewater Advisor, your tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as technical wastewater specialist for the Water Technology Alliance on wastewater.
- Proactively identify and pursue collaboration opportunities with US utilities and other stakeholders.
- Assist US stakeholders in understanding how Danish wastewater solutions can be effectively adapted to meet local needs.
- Organize and lead workshops, utility visits, and delegations for US utilities and water stakeholders to Denmark.
- Manage and execute on strategic outreach towards decision-makers and companies to bridge the gap between US and Danish stakeholders.
- Represent the Water Technology Alliance at industry conferences and public events to promote Danish wastewater solutions.
For the Junior Wastewater Advisor:
As Junior Wastewater Advisor, your tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Support our Water Team in identifying US business opportunities and assisting Danish companies in navigating the US wastewater market.
- Engage with US water utilities and industry stakeholders and gather insights on local needs and requirements for Danish companies.
- Plan and execute events such as workshops, utility visits, and delegations for US utilities and water stakeholders to Denmark.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with US stakeholders including local municipalities, utilities, and industry organizations.
Required qualifications
For the Technical Wastewater Advisor:
- Experience and knowledge of the Danish water sector.
- Solid experience with wastewater processes and treatment plant operations.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility, and can proactively contribute within a team.
- Experience in navigating complex stakeholder relationships and ability to establish and driving projects.
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
- Proficiency in Danish (spoken and written) is advantageous but not required.
For the Junior Wastewater Advisor:
- Experience and knowledge of the Danish water sector are beneficial but not a requirement.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and work proactively within a team.
- Past experience working with business or utilities.
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
- Proficiency in Danish (spoken and written) is advantageous but not required.
Employment conditions
- Expected start is July 1st, 2025 or as soon as possible. The employment requires security clearance from the Danish authorities.
- You will be hired as “Technical Commercial Advisor” or as “Junior Wastewater Advisor” based at the Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago.
- Both positions are expected to be based in Chicago, with the possibility of being based in California if preferred by the right candidate.
- We offer full-time employment for 2 years on a local contract with the possibility of extension.
- Your standard working hours will be 37 hours per week, but you will be hired without upper limit.
- You will be entitled to 25 days of vacation per year.
- Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant work experience, and proven work-related results.
- Benefits and other conditions are based on the Local Mission's Staff Handbook and include healthcare (80% employer contribution).
- Approx. 70-80 days of travel per year in the US and to Denmark.
