Tech Advisor – Quantum and Cyber

We spearhead Denmark’s pioneering TechPlomacy efforts in Silicon Valley, with a focus on the geopolitical impacts of new technologies and the role of the tech industry. Today, technology and the digital domain have become a fundamental part of geopolitics with significant implications for countries globally. We are a dynamic and fast-paced office that operates across several time zones, and our mission is to help Denmark engage with and navigate this evolving technology landscape and its impacts.

We are looking for a new Tech Advisor to help Denmark scale this work and be part of one of the most exciting new diplomatic efforts.

The Office of Denmark's Tech Ambassador has a global mandate to engage proactively with the main opportunities and risks of emerging technologies, with a presence in both Silicon Valley and Copenhagen. As a member of the Silicon Valley team, you will report directly to the Deputy Tech Ambassador based in Silicon Valley.

About the role

The successful candidate advises on and leads projects at the intersection of security politics, emerging technologies, and foreign policy by:

  • Analyzing trends in security and foreign politics with a focus on quantum technologies and cybersecurity.
  • Writing diplomatic cables, quickly translating regulatory news and updates from the tech industry by regularly reporting in Danish to relevant stakeholders.
  • Co-organizing and managing specific projects relevant for Denmark’s quantum diplomacy in coordination with quantum colleagues in Copenhagen and Silicon Valley.
  • Liaising with the cybersecurity and quantum technology industry regarding innovation, regulation, legislation, and implementation.
  • Planning and executing meetings, high-level events, and delegations, including ministerial visits.
  • Supporting the implementation of TechPlomacy’s most recent strategy for tech diplomacy.

In short, we seek a driven, curious, and knowledgeable colleague who can navigate the intersections between security politics, technology, diplomacy, and foreign affairs.

Required qualifications

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience, ideally within technology, policy, computer science, or international relations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written, in Danish.
  • A strong sense of responsibility and proactivity.

Desired qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and their implications – namely security politics.
  • Knowledge of the geopolitical consequences of technological developments.

Employment conditions

  • You will be offered full-time employment for 2 years with the possibility of extension as mission-employed staff. Housing and relocation benefits are not provided as part of the employment, and your spouse/partner is not eligible for a work permit.
  • You will be employed with a work week of – on average – 37 hours, but you are employed without an upper working hours limit.
  • You will be entitled to 5 weeks (25 working days) of paid vacation days per year.
  • As part of your salary, you will be covered by a workplace pension scheme.
  • You will be offered reasonable health coverage, which includes your spouse/partner as well as children under the age of 26, if applicable.
