Student Assistant in Public Diplomacy

The Embassy of Denmark is looking for a bright and creative college student to join our Public Diplomacy, Press and Culture Team as a part-time Student Assistant.

 

The team works to create and manage Denmark’s ‘brand’ in the United States, and our new colleague will play a key role in promoting Danish values, culture, and policies in the U.S. You will have a high level of creative freedom, and work on content spanning a large variety of topics and channels.

 

You will join the Embassy in an important role, supporting press and communication efforts with a specific focus on social media. You will be able to leverage your creativity and create content to be used across the Embassy’s social media channels, focusing on Denmark, Danish values and culture, Danish foreign policy efforts, and Danish-American trade. You will also work to update the Embassy website, conduct media monitoring, and play a supporting role in coordinating, executing coverage of visits from high-level Danish officials. 

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Conceptualizing, visually designing and posting content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter
  • Creating video content, including conducting interviews and recording and editing in Final Cut Pro
  • Participating in planning and execution of official visits, events and cultural events
  • Maintaining the Embassy homepage: usa.um.dk
  • Taking part in promoting Denmark’s cultural profile in the USA
  • Replying to enquiries regarding Danish culture, Danish social conditions etc.

 

The Candidate

  • You are currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree. Ideally, majoring in on communication, marketing, media, or journalism (though this is not required).
  • You are passionate about visual design and creating content.
  • You are open, independent, and creative.
  • Video and web editing skills are an advantage, but not required.
  • You do not need to be Danish to apply for this role.
  • The Embassy may only employ persons who are US citizens, US Permanent Residents, eligible visa holders or students holding a work permit. 

Employment Conditions

  • Starting date is February 1st or as soon as possible thereafter.
  • You will be asked to work 15-20 hours per week, with flexibility.
  • Your salary will reflect qualifications and relevant work experience.
  • Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Candidate must security clearance by the Danish authorities prior to employment.
