The Embassy of Denmark in Washington D.C. is looking for a full-time sous-chef for the Ambassador’s Residence. Our new sous-chef will, alongside with the sous-chef duties, also perform other duties as assigned, incl. house-keeping tasks.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

Assist Embassy Chef in

  • Running the kitchen in the residence in cooperation with the residential staff colleagues.
  • Assist Embassy Chef in preparing and executing official events hosted in the Ambassador’s Residence, incl. shopping, cooking, setting tables, receiving guests, assisting in the kitchen (back-of-house prep and clean-up), waiting on tables and post event clean-up.
  • When needed, run events in the Ambassador’s Residence independently as instructed by Embassy Chef.
  • Budget and bookkeeping for the provision of food.
  • Maintaining the residence kitchen in a sanitary excellent condition.

 

Perform other duties as assigned, incl.

  • Various housekeeping tasks, cleaning etc.

 

Required qualifications

  • Professional experience from working as a chef or sous-chef.
  • Experienced at setting up and executing official events.
  • Structured mind-set with good planning, organizational and communications skills.
  • Proactive and conscientious with attention to detail.
  • Versatile and flexible in nature, able to take individual responsibility for a range of tasks, both big and small.
  • Good command of spoken and written English.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively and supportively with colleagues, both individually and in a team setting.
  • Able to act with discretion at all times.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to the changing needs of the Ambassador.
  • Available and willing to work evenings and weekends when needed as receptions and dinner events take place in the evenings.
  • Must be able to coordinate personal holiday and vacation schedules in accordance with the Ambassador’s program and needs.

Employment conditions

  • You will be offered full-time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension on a local contract.
  • You will be employed with an average workweek of 37 hours, but you are employed without an upper working hour limit. This implies that you must work more than 37 hours a week if your work so requires without receiving compensation for overtime.
  • Evening and weekend work should be expected.
  • You will be entitled to 5 weeks (25 working days) of paid vacation per full work year.
  • The gross monthly salary for the position for an employee subject to US income taxation is USD 3460. For a tax-exempt employee (tax exemption depending on US visa status and citizenship) the monthly net salary will be USD 4169. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience, an additional individual allowance may be added.
