Residence Assistant

The Embassy of Denmark in Washington D.C. is looking for a full-time Residence Assistant.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Keep the Ambassador’s Residence clean and in good working order at all times.
  • Assist Embassy Chef in preparing and executing official events hosted in the Ambassador’s Residence, incl. setting tables, receiving guests, assisting in the kitchen (back-of-house prep and clean-up), waiting on tables and post event clean-up.
  • Run smaller breakfast events in the Ambassador’s Residence independently as instructed by Embassy Chef.
  • Provide various practical assistance in support of the Ambassador’s overall function.

Required qualifications

  • Experienced at housekeeping in official households.
  • Experienced at setting up and executing official events.
  • Experienced at working in a professional kitchen.
  • Structured mind-set with good planning, organizational and communications skills.
  • Proactive and conscientious with attention to detail.
  • Versatile and flexible in nature, able to take individual responsibility for a range of tasks, both big and small.
  • Good command of spoken and written English.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively and supportively with colleagues, both individually and in a team setting.
  • Able to act with discretion at all times.
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to the changing needs of the Ambassador.
  • Available and willing to work evenings and weekends when needed as receptions and dinner events take place in the evenings.
  • Must be able to coordinate personal holiday and vacation schedules in accordance with the Ambassador’s program and needs.

Employment conditions

  • You will be offered full-time employment for 1 year on a local contract. An extension might be possible.
  • You will be employed with an average workweek of 37 hours, but you are employed without an upper working hour limit. This implies that you must work more than 37 hours a week if your work so requires without receiving compensation for overtime.
  • Evening and weekend work should be expected.
  • You will be entitled to 5 weeks (25 working days) of paid vacation per full work year.
  • The gross monthly salary for the position for an employee subject to US income taxation is USD 3.598. For a tax-exempt employee (tax exemption depending on US visa status and citizenship) the monthly net salary will be USD 2.986. On top of the basic salary, there will be an additional allowance of 12% for the no upper working hours’ limit. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience an additional individual allowance may be added.
