The Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago is looking for a talented communicator to promote The Trade Council in North America’s water and environment activities and opportunities in Danish and U.S. media outlets, as well as attract Danish companies to explore their export potential across the Atlantic.
About the Position
Based in Chicago, you will play an instrumental role in the Environment team and be an integrated part of the marketing and communication team, which consists of a Communications Advisor in Houston and two interns in Chicago and Houston, respectively.
The Marketing & Communications Advisor will lead strategic communications efforts related to the Water & Environment’s export initiatives in North America. In this role, your primary focus will be:
- Develop and coordinate content for our website and social media accounts, including digital campaigns
- Write market news, success stories and case stories related to our work of assisting Danish companies succeed
- Pitch stories to Danish and U.S. media outlets
- Video production and editing
- Maximize exposure of key activities/events to relevant stakeholders
Required qualifications
- A degree in communication, journalism, media, or similar.
- Experience with strategic communications.
- Flair for visual and graphical storytelling.
- Experience with Photoshop, InDesign as well as video editing is expected.
- A commercial mindset.
- Fluency in English and Danish.
- Expe
- rience from the energy and environment sector is advantageous but not a prerequisite.
The position requires an employee who has strong communicative skills and can launch initiatives that create positive attention in Denmark and the U.S. about our energy and environment efforts in the U.S. The candidate should possess an independent drive along with a positive, curious, and proactive attitude when engaging in new tasks. Being able to manage relations with a broad range of stakeholders is essential. As the work pace is subject to fluctuation, the candidate should be able to maintain a clear perspective and a flexible mind set in stressful situations.

Employment conditions
- Your standard working hours will be 37 hours per week, with a large degree of flexibility in organizing your own daily working hours.
- You will be offered full time employment for two years with the possibility of extension on a local contract.
- Salary depends on qualifications and terms for locally employed staff at the Danish missions in the U.S.
- Your standard working hours will be 37 hours per week, and you will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
- Benefits and other conditions are based on the “Local Staff Rules” of the Danish missions in North America.
- Expected start is May 1st, 2023 or as soon as possible. The employment requires security clearance from the Danish authorities.
