Junior Policy Advisor for the Greenland Representation

Type of employment: Full time employment for two years on a local contract with the possibility of extension.

The Greenland Representation in Washington, D.C. is seeking a skilled and motivated Junior Policy Advisor to support our growing team. This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of Greenlandic diplomacy and public affairs in the U.S.

 

About the Position

As a Junior Policy Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting the Representation’s mission through policy analysis, event planning, reporting, outreach, communications, and social media (SoMe). You will also help organize and coordinate high-level meetings and initiatives that promote Greenlandic interests and culture in the United States.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and executing meetings, events, and official visits (e.g., ministerial and parliamentary)
  • Preparing briefings, reports, and other documentation
  • Coordinating communication efforts and maintaining social media channels
  • Assisting in public diplomacy and outreach activities
  • Promoting Greenlandic culture and cooperation areas of interest through organized events
  • Collaborating closely with your colleagues to achieve strategic goals

 

Required Qualifications

  • A relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree (e.g., communication, journalism, international relations)
  • Professional experience in communications or related fields
  • Strong interest in Greenland and the promotion of Greenlandic values
  • Excellent command of English – both written and spoken
  • Proven ability to work independently and proactively, while also contributing to a collaborative team
  • High sense of responsibility and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general IT competence
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an eagerness to both learn and share knowledge
  • Ability to build and maintain networks in your field

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Kalaallisut (Greenlandic) and/or a Scandinavian language is an advantage but not a requirement

Employment conditions

  • Full time employment for three years with the possibility of extension on a local contract based on the local Embassy Staff Rules.
  • You will be employed with an average workweek of 37 hours, but you are employed without an upper working hours’ limit. This implies that you must work more than 37 hours a week if your work so requires without receiving compensation for overtime.
  • You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.
  • You will be offered a local health insurance with 80% premium covered.
  • Benefits and other conditions will be based on the Embassy’s Staff Rules.
  • The basic gross monthly salary for a Junior Policy Advisor subject to US income taxation is USD 4,511. For a tax-exempt employee (tax exemption depending on US visa status and citizenship) the monthly net salary will be USD 3,743. Basic salary is subject to change, depending on the qualifications and experience. On top of the basic salary, there will be an additional allowance of 12% for the no upper working hours’ limit. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience an additional individual allowance may be added.
