Denmark in the United States is seeking an Advisor to join our Government & Public Affairs (GPA) team in Houston, Texas.

Join our team and contribute to export promotion, government collaboration, and strategic initiatives across key U.S. sectors, including energy, health & life sciences, defense, maritime, and environment, with a focus on major US economic hubs, including Texas, Florida, and Georgia.
About the Role
Based at the Consulate General in Houston, you will report locally to the Consul General and for your day-to-day priorities and strategic projects you will report to the GPA and geopolitical team leader based in Washington, D.C. You will play a key role in:
- Driving strategic initiatives to support Danish business interests in the United States with a focus on select states in close collaboration with our sector and industry teams.
- Coordinating high-level meetings, ministerial visits and events involving both commercial and political stakeholders.
- Engaging with industry and political stakeholders, primarily on state-level with focus on regulation, legislation, and state-level opportunities and challenges.
- Supporting GPA activities across the United States in close collaboration with our sector and industry teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Cultivate Danish private sector engagement across relevant states. Examples of states, where we expect to see opportunities: Texas, Florida, and Georgia.
- Facilitate connections and collaboration between Danish and U.S. stakeholders.
- Provide political and market insights for Danish companies and stakeholders.
- Contribute to strategy, messaging, and initiatives at state and national levels.
- Handle administrative and project management tasks related to GPA and geopolitical advisory activities.
Qualifications
- Ambitious, curious, and efficient with strong analytical and project management skills.
- Interested in public affairs, consulting, business development, and strategic planning.
- Comfortable engaging with diverse public and private stakeholders.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
- Excellent English (written and spoken); Danish is a plus.
- Knowledge of Danish industry strengths (e.g., energy, maritime, health & life sciences) is beneficial but not required.
Employment conditions
- You will be offered full time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension.
- You will be hired on a local contract based on the relevant legally binding labor market rules of the United States of America.
- You will be employed with an average workweek of 37 hours, but you are employed without an upper working hours’ limit. This implies that you must work more than 37 hours a week if your work so requires without receiving compensation for overtime. You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
- Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.
- Benefits and other conditions will be based on the Consulate’s Staff Rules.
- The basic gross monthly salary for the position and a candidate with relevant qualifications and relevant work experience – for an employee subject to US income taxation – is USD 4736. For a tax-exempt employee (tax exemption depending on US visa status and citizenship) the monthly net salary will be USD 4215. Basic salary is subject to change if the candidate does not have the needed qualifications for the position. On top of the basic salary, there will be an additional allowance of 12% for the no upper working hours’ limit. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience an additional individual allowance may be added.
