The Permanent Mission of Denmark to UN in New York is seeking to recruit a pro-active, conscientious, well-organized, with command of English Housekeeper for the Ambassador of the Danish UN-mission’s residence in Midtown Manhattan.
The recruitment is for 1 year with the possibility of extension.
The Residence is the representative home of the Ambassador of the Danish UN-mission, Permanent Danish Representative to the UN and her family. The Residence is situated Midtown Manhattan, close to Grand Central. The Residence consists of part private and part official entertainment areas. The entertainment areas host events such as receptions, coffee meetings, lunches and evening dinners related to the official functions of the Ambassador. Denmark is a candidate to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council 2025-26. This will entail an increase in the event/ entertainment activity at the Residence.
The Housekeeper manage the preparations and execution of these events but is not required to cook for the occasions.
You will be working in the residence of the Ambassador employed by the Danish UN Mission. You report to the Ambassador and to staff at the UN Mission acting on behalf of the Ambassador. Your work hours will be morning, afternoon or evening based on need.
Main tasks and responsibilities as Housekeeper will be:
- Managing the residence of the Ambassador in New York on a daily basis including general housekeeping, cleaning, laundry, ironing etc.
- Preparing and assisting in the execution of official events hosted in the Ambassador’s Residence or at the Permanent Danish UN Mission, including shopping and managing temporary external staff hired for cooking and serving at the occasions.

- A structured mind-set and good planning and coordination skills.
- Contentiousness and proactivity
- Command of English – both oral and written
- Flexible and willing to adapt to the changing needs of the Ambassador. Receptions and dinner event take place in the evenings. You will also be required to coordinate your holiday schedules with the needs of the Ambassador before you book your holidays.

Employment conditions
- You will be offered full time employment on a local contract for 1 year with the possibility of extension. Within the first probationary three months the contract may be terminated with two weeks notice from either side.
- You will be employed with a workweek of – on average – 37 hours. You are employed without an upper working hours limit. This implies that you must work more than 37 hours a week if your work so requires without receiving compensation for overtime. You do, however, have a large degree of flexibility in organizing your own daily working hours and schedule – a part from the tasks and schedules related to official events.
- You will be entitled to 5 weeks (25 working days) of paid vacation days per full work year.
- For a full time employee subject to US taxation the gross salary will be 4,675 USD per month (For a tax exempt employee the net salary will be 3,745 USD per month. In addition the Mission will cover the employer part of Medicare, Social Security, pension and health insurance contributions.

- You will also be offered reasonable coverage of sickness expenses. So will your spouse/partner/children under the age of 26 if you provide for him/her/them.
