Full time chef

The Embassy of Denmark is looking for a competent, creative and service-minded chef to work full time at the Residence of the Danish Ambassador in Washington DC.

The Residence hosts representative events including breakfasts, lunches, dinners and receptions for politicians, companies and other high level contacts. The Residence is also venue for cultural events to promote Danish design, music, art and architecture.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Running the kitchen in the Residence.
  • Preparation of menus, shopping, cooking and baking for events in the Residence.
  • Arranging for additional assistance from waiters etc. if needed.
  • Budget and bookkeeping for the provision of food in cooperation with the Ambassador’s PA.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Residence kitchen in a sanitary excellent condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working hours will be flexible depending on activities in the Residence and Embassy and will include working during evenings.

Required qualifications

  • Documented experience as a chef is required. Experience running a kitchen would be preferred, incl. manage the provision of food items.
  • Previous Embassy Residence employment is an advantage, but not essential.
  • An approachable personality and good communication skills are essential.
  • Must be flexible with working hours.
  • Knowledge and experience with Danish or Nordic Cuisine is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Good English skills required.

Employment conditions

  • You will be offered full time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension on a local contract. Initial probationary period of 3 months.
  • Your standard working hours will be 37 hours per week whereof approx. 10 hours a week will be between 5.00pm and 10.00pm (working hours according to activities in the Residence and Embassy).
  • You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.

  • Accommodation will not be offered.
