Are you passionate about foreign and development policy? The Embassy of Denmark in Washington D.C. is looking for a local Advisor for Foreign and Development Policy. You will be part of the Embassy staff of around 60 employees. In your daily work, you will report to the Head of the Department for Foreign, Security and Development Policy.
About the job
As advisor at the Embassy, you will help promote Denmark and Danish interests in the United States. You will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on developments in geographic and/or thematic areas of U.S. foreign and development policy.
An important part of your job will be to engage with the U.S. Administration and Congress based on Danish priorities. You must be able to work independently and be able to identify how developments in American foreign and development policy affect Danish interests. You will need excellent communication skills to engage with internal and external partners. As part of the job, you will be organising events and facilitating visits by Danish Government officials and parliamentarians.
The Department often operates with short deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and colleagues juggle multiple tasks at the same time. Your portfolio will evolve according to policy developments and priorities. We expect you to be a team player and ready to engage in new tasks with a short notice – and across the Department and the Embassy if needed.
Required qualifications

A university degree in political science, development studies, economy, law or other relevant areas

Preferably at least two years of experience in a relevant line of work

Interest in U.S. foreign and development policy

Strong academic credentials and analytical skills

Strong interpersonal and networking skills

Strong communications skills. Proficiency in Danish preferred but not required

A flexible approach to work. You must be able to juggle many issues simultaneously

A team player who values a good working environment with focus on strong cooperation

Knowledge of American politics and business culture will be an advantage.
Employment conditions

Full time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension on a local contract based on the local Embassy Staff Handbook.

You standard working hours will be 37 hours per week with a large degree of flexibility in organizing your own daily working hours.

You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.

Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.

You will be offered a local health insurance with insurance premium partly covered (80/20).
