Would you like to be a part of a strong team focusing on strengthening Denmark’s cooperation with the United States within the energy policy area. The Embassy of Denmark in Washington DC is looking for a full-time Energy Policy Adviser who will work closely with the Embassy management and energy team across North America.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Engage with key stake holders in the US Administration, Congress, and other relevant authorities.
- In-depth follow and comprehend energy policy objectives and initiatives at federal and to some extend state level.
- Contribute to relation building within the energy sector for Denmark in USA at federal and state level.
- Contribute with professional sector insights into the Embassy’s dialogue with Danish and American companies and organizations within the energy sector.
- Contribute to both analysis and strategy development on the energy agenda for Denmark’s engagement in the energy sector.
- To some extend follow significant federal initiatives and developments within climate, water and environment.
Required qualifications
- Team player who values a good working environment with focus on strong cooperation.
- Relevant academic education, e.g. in business and/or political affairs.
- Experience with public authorities in Denmark and/or the United States.
- Good technical and commercial understanding of energy policy and personal experience with cooperation between the private and public sector.
- Knowledge of energy policy and regulation and preferably some insight in climate, water and/or environmental policies.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of Danish is not a requirement, but will be considered an advantage.
- Ability to manage many relations and projects simultaneously – and to identify business opportunities and expand connections.
- Knowledge of American political and business culture would be an advantage.

Employment conditions
- You will be offered full-time employment for 2 years with the possibility of extension on a local contract.
- You will be employed with an average workweek of 37 hours, but you are employed without an upper working hours’ limit. This implies that you must work more than 37 hours a week if your work so requires without receiving compensation for overtime.
- Evening and weekend work should be expected.
- You will be entitled to 5 weeks (25 working days) of paid vacation per full work year.
- The gross monthly salary for the position for an employee subject to US income taxation is USD 5,456. For a tax-exempt employee (tax exemption depending on US visa status and citizenship) the monthly net salary will be USD 4,528. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience, an additional individual allowance may be added.
