Would you like to be a part of a strong team focusing on the sustainable development agenda and strengthening Denmark’s bilateral energy cooperation with the United States? The Embassy of Denmark in Washington DC is looking for an Energy Coordinator until end of 2023 where the current funding expires. Additional funding beyond 2023 is in the process of being negotiated.

Almost 40 years of ambitious energy policies have put Denmark ahead in the renewable energy industry resulting in a leading position within wind power, smart grid, district heating and energy

efficiency. The job is offering an exciting challenge and the opportunity to make a difference in one of Denmark’s biggest export markets for offshore wind, green hydrogen and energy technology.

 

About the job

At the Danish Embassy in Washington, you will help strengthen the cooperation between American and Danish authorities in the energy sector, with a main focus on offshore wind energy and green hydrogen. The goal of the cooperation is to strengthen the sustainable development in both countries by sharing insights on policy frameworks and regulation when it comes to integration of renewable energy, particularly offshore wind and green hydrogen.

Offshore wind is expected to play a major role for the energy market and decarbonization in the United States. Danish experience and technologies have a lot to offer. It will be crucial that you are able to create strong networks and relationships with national and regional stakeholders. You will be the coordinator of several initiatives, and responsible for following up on leads as well as manage the logistics of high-level visits, workshops and study tours.

You will be hired at the Danish Embassy in Washington and be part of the Embassy staff of around 55 employees. In your daily work, you will coordinate closely with the energy advisor at the embassy and report directly to the Head of the Department for Economic Diplomacy and Domestic Political Affairs. You will be a part of the economic diplomacy team at the Danish Embassy in Washington and work closely with Trade Council’s commercial team across North America as well as the international offices of ministries and agencies in Denmark.

 

Required qualifications

  • Relevant academic education, e.g. in social science, business and/or political affairs.
  • Experience with public authorities in Denmark and/or the United States.
  • Good technical and commercial understanding of energy solutions and personal experience with cooperation between the private and public sector.
  • Project coordination/ management skills.
  • Knowledge of energy policy and regulation.
  • Ability to forge close relations to Danish companies and authorities as well as local authorities.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of Danish is not a requirement, but will be considered an advantage.
  • A team player who values a good working environment with focus on strong cooperation.
  • Ability to manage many relations and projects simultaneously – and to identify business opportunities and expand connections.
  • Knowledge of American political and business culture would be an advantage.

 

Employment conditions

  • You will be offered full time employment until end of December 2023 on a local contract based on the on the local Embassy Staff Handbook.
  • Your standard working hours will be 37 hours per week with a large degree of flexibility in organizing your own daily working hours.
  • You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
  • You will be offered a reasonable coverage of sickness expenses.
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.
