The Embassy of Denmark in Washington, DC, is looking for a driven and proactive Commercial Advisor to join our GPA and Geopolitics team in Trade Council North America.
The geopolitical landscape is constantly challenging the way Danish companies do business and navigating in this landscape is both difficult and complex. In our GPA and geopolitical business advisory team we are working to help Danish companies excel at exactly that. About the job
As an advisor in our GPA and Geopolitics team based in Washington DC, you will play a key role in supporting Danish businesses operating in the US by assisting in navigating the complexities of the geopolitical landscape and public affairs domain to drive growth and opportunities. You will be an integrated part of our efforts across export promotion activities and government-to-government collaboration within a range of key sectors across North America including energy, environment, health & life science, defence industry, maritime, and more. You will assist and consult Danish companies in doing business in Denmark’s biggest export market, and you will be responsible for coordinating and leading strategic initiatives within public affairs including identifying, maturing and executing project opportunities for Danish companies.
Your main tasks and responsibilities
- Providing geopolitical business advisory services to Danish companies, offering support across many sectors.
- Coordinating and supporting briefings and meetings for the Ambassador.
- Coordinating and supporting GPA related activities and supporting in developing new initiatives with colleagues across all eight missions in North America (US and Canada).
- Facilitate meetings and connections between Danish companies and US stakeholders, identifying opportunities for collaboration and growth.
- Handling administrative tasks related to GPA and geopolitical business advisory activities.
- Supporting Danish companies with geopolitical business advisory services across sectors.
- Organize and execute events, workshops, and delegations to and from Denmark in close collaboration with colleagues across our dedicated sector teams.
- Help execute project and collaboration opportunities for Danish companies by facilitating relations between U.S. customers and stakeholders, and Danish partners.
Preferred qualifications
- You have relevant experience within international business, consulting, and/or GPA and Geopolitics
- You are interested in public affairs, consulting, business and project development.
- Knowledge of Danish commercial strongholds is not a requirement but may be beneficial. The strongholds include: Energy, energy efficiency, maritime, health & life science, water & environment, food & agriculture, and defence.
- You are interested in project management and have an analytical approach in your work.
- You are comfortable in engaging with and developing local networks across public and private stakeholders.
- You are ambitious, efficient, and curious.
- You possess a high sense of responsibility for your work and are both driven and proactive in solving your tasks.
- You have the ability to work independently as well as in teams.
- You are able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and are comfortable in working with deadlines in an efficient manner.
- You have an excellent command of both Danish and English (written and spoken).
Employment conditions
- You will be offered full time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension.
- You will be hired on local contract based on the relevant legally binding labour market rules of the United States of America.
- You will be employed with an average workweek of 37 hours, but you are employed without an upper working hours’ limit. This implies that you must work more than 37 hours a week if your work so requires without receiving compensation for overtime. You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
- Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.
- Benefits, including pension and other conditions will be based on the Embassy’s Staff Rules.
- The basic gross monthly salary for the position and a candidate with relevant qualifications and relevant work experience – for an employee subject to US income taxation – is USD 5756. For a tax-exempt employee (tax exemption depending on US visa status and citizenship) the monthly net salary will be USD 4777. Basic salary is subject to change if the candidate does not have the preferred qualifications for the position. On top of the basic salary, there will be an additional allowance of 12% for the no upper working hours’ limit. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience an additional individual allowance may be added.
