About the position
Denmark in North America is looking for a new Commercial Advisor to join our Future Energies Team at the Embassy in Washington, DC.
As a Commercial Advisor in Washington, DC, your work will center on future energies with a special focus on industrial symbiosis parks (re-industrialization) – a cluster approach to industry parks applying circular economy principles to practice by bringing together industries to take advantage of waste resources.You will be an integrated part of a larger energy team working across wind, biogas, PtX, CCUS, green fuels, and the maritime sector, working closely with colleagues focused on policy or members of our Invest in Denmark and our Innovation team.
As our next team member, you will also be expected to support broadly our activities within our Future Energies Team, and as such, you will play a vital part in positioning Denmark as a leading force in the energy transition and sustainable industrial practices, particularly in areas like waste-to-energy, green hydrogen, and alternative fuel production.
Key responsibilities
As Commercial Advisor you will:
- Work closely with Danish companies to develop strategic market entry plans for North America, with a focus on industrial symbiosis, renewable energy solutions, and sustainable industrial processes such as green hydrogen, biofuels, and methanol production.
- Support Danish Companies on awareness and partaking of upcoming opportunities as knowledge partners and consultants in relevant projects in the clean energy space.
- Plan and execute export promotion activities, including workshops, seminars, and delegations to highlight Denmark's expertise in future energies and industrial symbiosis to North American stakeholders.
- Proactively identify and pursue opportunities for collaboration between Danish companies and North American stakeholders, including government agencies, local businesses, and industry professionals.
- Help facilitate and develop collaborative projects such as pilot initiatives or flagship projects that include Danish technology, solutions, or expertise.
- Provide tailored advice and support to Danish companies navigating the US and Canadian markets, particularly in the renewable and alternative fuel production space.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local governments, industry associations, and business leaders, to foster strong relations between Denmark and North America
Required qualifications
- A relevant educational background (min. bachelor's degree or equivalent)
- Hold 3-4 years of work experience in commercial advisory, sustainability, or energy-related fields
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills, with a high level of responsibility and the ability to work independently
- Excellent command of English (both written and spoken)
Qualifications that are not required but helpful in order to succeed in this position
- Knowledge of or experience in North American markets, particularly in energy transition, waste-to-energy, or industrial sustainability sectors
- Familiarity with Denmark's energy policies, industrial symbiosis projects, or energy transition strategies
- Experience in consulting or working in an international or cross-cultural environment

Employment conditions
- You will be offered employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension, on a local contract, based on the relevant legally binding labour market rules of the United States of America
- Your standard working hours will be 37 hours per week with flexible working hours depending on tasks
- You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
