As Marketing & Communications intern at the Consulate General in Chicago, you will become an integrated part of the Trade Council in North America’s Marcom team – a team with two advisors and interns based in Chicago and Houston, focusing on the Trade Council’s efforts within Energy and Environment.

We tailor our internship to you to ensure that you experience the best possible development – both professionally and personally – and facilitate internship assignments and projects within water, environment, and energy with creativity and specialization in mind.

 

As a Marcom intern, you will:

  • Work closely with our Marcom advisor and collaborate on planning your internship with monthly follow-up interviews and thorough feedback sessions
  • Receive marketing and communication challenges that guarantee a steep learning curve
  • Participate in a wide range of projects and events such as delegations, receptions, etc.
  • Become part of an open and social work environment with 12 advisors and 3 interns at the Consulate General in Chicago
  • Experience living in Chicago – the third largest city in the U.S., renowned for its museums, architecture, and vibrant music scene.

A Marcom intern is someone who:

  • Is motivated, proactive, and has a genuine interest in marketing and/or communication
  • Possess an independent drive and a positive attitude when engaging in tasks – curiosity and initiative are definitely a plus
  • Is enrolled in a higher education – preferably focusing on journalism, communications, media, or marketing
  • Has a flair for visual storytelling
  • Is secure when speaking and writing Danish and English

 

As a Marcom intern, your daily task will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support and produce videos, infographics, marketing material, and content for our social media channels
  • Research and write web articles and case stories about the Trade Council’s work within renewable energy and sustainability
  • Coordinate and promote cultural events and delegations
  • Develop and maintain Trade Council and the Consulate General’s websites
  • Participate in strategizing our communicative efforts across missions
  • Continuously process our data to evaluate our communication efforts across media channels
  • Coordinate and stay updated on our Water Trade Advisors’ activities to find the ‘good stories’ on how Danish sustainable solutions and knowledge have contributed to the green transition in the U.S.

Houston (1 position)

As Marketing & Communications intern at the Consulate General in Houston, you will become an integrated part of the Trade Council in North America’s Marcom team – a team with two advisors and interns based in Houston and Chicago, focusing on the Trade Council’s efforts within Energy and Environment.

We tailor our internship to you to ensure that you experience the best possible development – both professionally and personally – and facilitate internship assignments and projects within energy, water and environment, public diplomacy, and culture with creativity and specialization in mind.

 

As a Marcom intern, you will:

New York (1 position)

1. Press and Communications.  Application Number: COM-3.

The Position

As the Communications and Press Intern at the Danish Consulate General in New York, you will be an important part of the Consulate’s daily communication activities. The Consulate communication is especially focused on partnerships and sustainable solution across our activities in culture, public diplomacy, trade and investment promotion.  

You will be working across the Consulate with all the teams and colleagues in Invest in Denmark, Trade Council, Culture & Public Diplomacy. In the communications department, we are also working closely together with the Head of Mission, Consul General Berit Basse. 

The Consul General in New York is located in Denmark House together with the Danish Mission to the UN. We often collaborate with the UN Mission, especially around big events such as the UN General Assembly (September) and UN Women (March).  

The Communications and Press Officer will be your day-to-day lead and will offer you feedback and many learning opportunities throughout your internship. You will get a chance to work with various disciplines within the fields of marketing and communications and, in such, contribute to bridging the gap between Denmark and the US. The Consulate General in New York offers an opportunity to learn in a vibrant and supportive office with about 45 engaged colleagues and a group of interns. 

Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating Denmark in NY’s social media channels (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and Facebook) and monitoring performance
  • Producing original content for our social media platforms (videos, pictures, text, and graphics)
  • Co-creating strategic communications campaigns around e.g. events, exhibitions, and delegations
  • Assisting the Communications Officer in writing draft speeches, speaking points, and press releases 
  • Press and media outreach to Danish and American journalists
  • Monitoring global and local news
  • Assisting with project management at events 
     

The Candidate 

For this position, students from marketing, communications, and journalism programs will be given priority consideration. Professional experience in media and journalism and/or social media management is a plus.
Excellent oral and written Danish and English skills are required.


Additional competencies include:

  • Experience in production of social media content
  • Experience with paid social media is a bonus
  • Flair for visual storytelling and experience with Canva and various photo and video editing software
  • Ability to work with CMS
  • Great project and time management skills
  • Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and analytics software
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matters relevant to the Consulate mission e.g., sustainability, diplomacy, or commercial strongholds 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team player, ability to work independently, and willing to bring new creative ideas to the table

Washington DC (1 position)

1. Press, Culture and Public Diplomacy.  Application Number: PD-2.

The Position
You will get an important role in the Embassy press and communication efforts, with special focus on social media. You will, among many other things, create content for social media focusing on Denmark, Danish values and culture, Danish companies export successes in the US, and Danish-American trade. You will create content for the Embassy's website, media monitoring, and update and further develop the Embassy's Instagram-, Facebook-, Twitter- and LinkedIn channels.

Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Create and update content for the Embassy's social media platforms
  • Produce pictures, graphics and videos (interviewing, recording and editing)
  • Participate in planning and execution of official visits, events and cultural events
  • Maintain the Embassy's website: usa.um.dk
  • Take part in promoting Denmark’s profile in the USA
  • Contribute to information and promotion of cultural events
  • Reply enquiries regarding Denmark, Danish culture, Danish values etc.

The Candidate

  • You are enrolled at a higher educational institution focusing on communication, journalism, media, or marketing
  • Fluency in Danish and English (oral and written) at a high level is required
  • Video and web editing skills are an advantage
  • You are open, independent and creative
