Do you possess strong business insight and a solid understanding of start-ups, investors, and the energy sector? Are you motivated to help Danish companies establish and grow strategic partnerships in North America? If so, you may be our new Commercial Advisor for Energy in Houston. Based at the Consulate General of Denmark in Houston, you will play a key role in fostering partnerships and supporting Danish companies as they expand and promote their business activities in North America. The Trade Council conducts paid export advisory services with KPI’s on activity hours and value creation. Most projects will focus on investment advisory, public affairs, business development, and strategic consulting, leveraging our established and expanding network of stakeholders across North America.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Support and expand the network of energy infrastructure investors in Houston and along the U.S. East Coast.
- Conduct outreach to Danish companies and connect them with potential market opportunities, providing market intelligence, stakeholder management, and project support.
- Design, develop, and present North American market-entry and business-development strategies for Danish companies.
- Advise start-ups and SMEs on funding opportunities and fundraising strategies.
- Engage with relevant segments of the North American and Danish supply chains.
- Plan and execute events, delegations, and activities that support both the North American network, Danish start-ups, and energy companies.
- Contribute to The Trade Council’s regional cooperation efforts and report to both the Energy Team and the Head of Mission in Houston.
To succeed in this job
- You have a solid understanding of commercial and technical energy solutions, as well as experience with public–private partnerships—ideally gained within the energy sector.
- You build meaningful relationships with Danish and North American authorities and companies, and you actively use your professional network.
- You possess knowledge of North American energy policy, particularly regarding regulations and framework conditions for hydrogen, BESS, electrification, and biomass.
- You are an effective project manager with strong coordination and organizational skills.
- You can comfortably deliver high-quality activities and projects, while also thriving as a collaborative team player. You are an engaging networker who understands what it takes to facilitate investment deals and who is motivated by achieving positive outcomes.
Required qualifications
- BSc (minimum) in social sciences, commerce, or as an engineer.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant, energy related work experience.
- Experience with investor relations, project development, consulting and/or sales.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken). Knowledge of Danish is not a requirement, but will be considered an advantage.
- Good commercial understanding and knowledge of the Danish and/or North American energy sector.
- Ability to network and forge close relations to Danish and North American companies and authorities.
Employment conditions
- You will be hired on local terms as a “Commercial Advisor” or “Senior Commercial Advisor” by the Consulate General of Denmark in Houston, 2800 Post Oak Blvd, Houston, TX 77056, United States.
- Starting date March 1st 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
- You will be offered full time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension. Your standard working hours are 37 hours per week.
- Your contract is regulated according to the “Local Staff Rules” of the Danish representations in North America.
