As a result, we are looking for a new colleague with a strong maritime background and a drive to promote Danish strongholds in North America to join us as our next Commercial and Policy Maritime Advisor.
About the job:
Based at the Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C., you will be working in one of the most interesting settings, developing a strong political maritime network while supporting Danish companies in establishing partnerships with North American maritime organizations, companies, and key stakeholders at both at federal and state levels.
As a Commercial and Policy Maritime Advisor, you will have a dual role in facilitating market access and opportunities for Danish maritime companies the U.S. and Canada, while monitoring political and regulatory developments in the North American maritime sector to best advise Danish companies and organizations.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
As Commercial and Policy Maritime Advisor, your tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Deliver on commercial targets, e.g., value and activity targets
- Map, engage, and manage key commercial and political stakeholders in the U.S. and Canada Monitor policy and regulatory developments in the North American maritime sectors
- Expand and strengthen our network within the maritime industry through active stakeholder engagement with ports, ship owners, maritime organizations, and key opinion leaders
- Act as a link between North American customers and stakeholders and Danish partners, including Danish companies, organizations, and government
- Organize and execute events, workshops, and delegations to and from Denmark Research, develop, and present market intelligence for Danish companies and institutions
- Support the execution projects, delegation visits, and strategic collaboration initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- You have relevant education and work experiences in the maritime sector, preferably from the US and/or Canadian market (e.g., from government, consulting, or industry organizations)
- You are ambitious, proactive, efficient, and outgoing, and have the ability to manage multiple tasks and work under time pressure
- You are self-driven, result-oriented, and want to make a difference for Denmark in North America
- You have a high sense of responsibility and can work independently as well as in teams
- You have a strong analytical mindset as well as curiosity and creativity to develop in-depth knowledge of the North American maritime industry
- You have an excellent command of English (written and spoken).
Employment Conditions
- You will locally be a part of the trade department at the Embassy in DC, but you will report to our North American Energy team leader based out of Houston, Texas.
- The advisor will have activity and value targets that should be achieved through direct collaborations with Danish maritime companies
- Full time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension on a local contract based on the local Embassy Staff Rules
- You will be employed with an average workweek of 37 hours, but you are employed without an upper working hours’ limit. This implies that you must work more than 37 hours a week if your work so requires without receiving compensation for overtime
- You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year
- Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results
- You will be offered a local health insurance with insurance premium partly covered with 20% personal coverage of premium
- Benefits and other conditions will be based on the Embassy’s Staff Rules.
- The basic gross monthly salary for the position and a candidate with relevant qualifications and relevant work experience – for an employee subject to US income taxation – is USD 5849. For a tax-exempt employee (tax exemption depending on US visa status and citizenship) the monthly net salary will be USD 4854. Basic salary is subject to change if the candidate does not have the needed qualifications for the position. On top of the basic salary, there will be an additional allowance of 12% for the no upper working hours’ limit. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience an additional individual allowance may be added.
