Business, Tourist and Private Visitor Visas

A Schengen visa is issued for the purpose of a short stay (less than 3 months) in Denmark/Iceland and other Schengen countries.

Due to a high volume of visa applications the expected processing time is 15 days.

Schengen visas are issued by: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Denmark is representing Iceland in New York and Chicago.

You have to apply for the Schengen visa at the Embassy/Consulate of your MAIN destination. The MAIN destination is the country where you are staying the longest time or where the main purpose of the trip is carried out.

If your intention is to travel to several Schengen countries without having a MAIN destination  and you will be staying the same amount of time in each country, you must apply for the Schengen visa at the Embassy/Consulate of the point of entry into Schengen.

How to apply:

Visa applicants must register their application online through the Applyvisa. Upon registration and payment of the visa fee the applicant must print out the Schengen Visa Application Cover Letter and submit it with the required documents on the checklist. No two-sided copies are allowed.

Please select the checklist that matches the purpose of your visit and make sure you collect all the mandatory documents:

Business visa checklist

Private visitor visa checklist

Tourist visa checklist

The visa officer may request additional documents at any time.

If you have failed to submit mandatory documents at the time of your appointment at VFS Global, the visa process may be delayed or refused.

Normal processing time for a visa application is 15 calendar days. However, please note that processing times depend on case volume. Expect longer processing times in May, June, July, August and December due to peak season travel.

A visa application can be launched as early as 3 months prior to the arrival date in Schengen, and it is strongly recommended that an application be launched no later than 20-30 days prior to departure. Here is why:

1. It can take up to 14 days to obtain an appointment with VFS Global for submitting your application.

2. Case processing does not begin until the application arrives at the Consulate General of Denmark in New York. Hence, your application is not launched when you apply online, or when you have your appointment with VFS Global. The shipping of your documents to and from the Consulate General of Denmark in New York adds 2-4 days to the processing time.

3. An application lodged less than 15 calendar days before the intended departure may be accepted at VFS, but the final decision might be taken after the date of departure.

You can find the information on which third countries whose nationals or specific categories of such third country nationals who are suject to prior consultation on the Visa Code Handbook, Annex 16.

Please note that case processing may be extended to 60 days if further scrutiny is required. Also missing documentation at the time of the appointment at VFS may delay the processing time.

Please also note that the Consulate General cannot be held responsible for technical difficulties, human errors or shipping delays in the processing of visa applications.

It is the applicant's responsibility to notify the Danish Consulate General immediately, if incorrect information on the visa sticker has been detected.
