The United States has the world’s largest health expenses. In 2012 health expenses reached 17.3% of GDP and they are expected to increase in the years to come. These high expenses are not sustainable when linked with development in demographics. Thus, the US government is working to optimize and increase efficiency in the health sector for its continued persistence.

Danish pharmaceutical companies have recently noticed the large US potential. Pharmaceutical products are today the largest Danish export to the United States.
