Would you like to be a part of a strong team working for Denmark in the US? The Embassy of Denmark in Washington D.C. is looking for a self-motivated and results-oriented Public Diplomacy Advisor. The branding and promotion of Denmark, Danish values and Danish commercial solutions underpin a broad and deep bilateral Danish-American relationship and enhance the platform for Danish export. You will be leading the Embassy’s communications efforts and be the focal point in relation to the promotion of Denmark and Danish values.

About the job
As Public Diplomacy Advisor, the main tasks of your work will be to implement the Embassy’s communications strategy i.e. tell a Danish narrative that is appealing to the US public. We are ambitious in our approach to communication and public diplomacy and we expect you to be innovative and ready to explore new ways of communicating the Danish narrative. 

As Public Diplomacy Advisor, you will be responsible for daily communication through the Embassy’s various social media platforms, updating the Embassy’s website, outreach to the US public, and media and press handling during official Danish VIP-visits. We expect you to be a team player, show flexibility and ready to engage in new tasks with a short notice – and across the Department and the Embassy if needed.

You will be a part of the Department of Foreign-, Security- and Development Policy at the Embassy of Denmark in Washington D.C. and work closely with other Embassy colleagues.

Required qualifications

  • Relevant bachelor or master degree in communication, journalism etc.
  • A couple of years of relevant work experience with communications.
  • Strong interest in the promotion of Denmark and Danish values.
  • Good motivational skills in teaching colleagues good branding opportunities. 
  • Professional experience with social media platforms 
  • Appreciation of a highly energetic work environment. 
  • A high sense of responsibility.
  • Excellent English language skills – both oral and written. 
  • IT proficiency and solid Microsoft Office program skills.
  • Great interpersonal skills and team player abilities as well as interest in and willingness to share knowledge with – and learn from – colleagues.
  • Ability to foster and maintain networks within you field.

Desired qualifications

  • Command of the Danish language is not a requirement, but will be considered an advantage.

Employment conditions

  • Full time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension on a local contract based on the local Embassy Staff Handbook.
  • You standard working hours will be 37 hours per week with a large degree of flexibility in organizing your own daily working hours.
  • You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results.
  • You will be offered a reasonable coverage of sickness expenses.
