Junior Advisor to Support Our Health & Life Science Team in Houston

Do you want to assist Danish Health and Life science companies in North America? Do you have the ability to work within diplomacy and business development? If your answer is yes, perhaps you are our new Junior Commercial Advisor at the Danish Consulate General in Houston, Texas.

As a Junior Advisor within Health and Life Science, you will be part of a dynamic, result-oriented team consisting of seven commercial advisors and two interns. Some of your life science colleagues are based out of Boston and Washington DC, while you in Houston will be part of a larger team of 14 advisors working within life science, water, and energy. 

The Position and Tasks

As a life science employee, you will become an integral part of the team of advisors and get a chance to work actively on export and trade promotions within the sector.

 

Your main tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Market research, analysis, and monitoring incl. mapping of stakeholders, competitors, potential partners, etc
  • Lead generation and outreach to Danish and American customers
  • Assisting with business development and execution of market strategies for Danish companies
  • Planning and coordinating virtual and in-person meeting programs and events in both Denmark and the U.S., and providing logistical support to high-level participants
  • Support in GPA (Global Public Affair) work with local authorities and other relevant stakeholders
  • Support of administrative work and daily routines incl. website and social media updates.

Your Skills and Motivation

You are comfortable working in an international setting and under guidance from our senior advisor (also based in Houston), who has built an extensive project portfolio and needs help in execution. 

 

It is vital that you are highly motivated, proactive, and have a genuine interest in understanding and solving the business-related challenges that Danish companies face when entering the U.S. market.

 

Other required qualifications are:

  • Relevant educational background at master level
  • Preferably an existing or growing network within the health care and life science industry in Denmark and/or the U.S.
  • A positive, open-minded team player, results-oriented approach to handling assignments
  • Strong ability to identify business opportunities and new industry trends
  • Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders in a political and business environment
  • A structured approach to work and projects
  • Excellent written and oral English, and an understanding of the nuances of communicating with people of varying regional and cultural background
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to the changing needs of the Consulate and the team. 

Employment Conditions

  • You will be hired as a Junior Commercial Advisor at the Consulate General of Denmark in Houston
  • You will be offered full-time employment for three years on a local contract with the possibility of extension
  • Your standard working hours are 37 hours per week
  • Your contract is regulated according to the "Staff Rules" of the Danish missions in North America
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant work experience, and proven work-related results
  • Other benefits: paid vacation, healthcare (80 percent employer contribution), pension scheme, and potential for a year-end bonus
  • Travel days should be expected and may vary depending on projects and the covid-19 situation
  • The position is subject to security clearance and final budget approval.
