strategic business developer to join our water advisory in chicago
Do you have strong business acumen? Are you interested in an international career? Do you want to assist Danish companies entering the North American industrial water sector? Are you keen on promoting sustainable and efficient energy solutions from Denmark to the US? Then perhaps you are our new business developer within industrial water at the Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago.
Based at the Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago, you will partly work to support Danish water companies and partly Danish industry export alliance (S.I.A.) by creating business opportunities and promoting their services in North America. Most of your projects will evolve around business development and strategic consulting by utilizing and expanding our existing network of stakeholders in the industrial water sector and the Industrial food and beverage sector across the US. As a business developer, you will be an integrated part of our Water Advisory and our industry alliance, where you will work closely with colleagues in Silicon Valley, Chicago, Houston and Washington DC.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Identifying and pursuing opportunities for Danish industrial water companies in the US.
- Deliver commercial deliverables as a part of the Sustainable Industries Alliance (S.I.A.) in close collaboration with a technical advisor.
- Research, develop and present North American market entry strategies, business development strategies, and market intelligence to Danish companies.
- Identify and connect Danish companies to new partners, distributors and end-users.
- Organize workshops, road shows, and delegations to and from Denmark.
- Assist with expanding our network within industrial water and S.I.A.
- Support the water advisory and S.I.A. in strategic outreach towards stakeholders, decisions makers and companies in the United States and Denmark.
Required qualifications
- You have relevant education or work experience – preferably in business and project development, consulting, or sales.
- You have international experience from previous positions.
- It is an asset, but not a requirement if you have experience within industrial water and energy solutions.
- You are ambitious, outgoing, results oriented with good coordination skills.
- You have an excellent command of English (written and spoken).
- You work efficiently on your own, but you are also a great team player.
Employment conditions
- We offer full time employment for 2 years on a local contract with the possibility of extension.
- Your standard working hours will be 37 hours per week, with a large degree of flexibility in organizing your daily working hours.
- You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
- Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience, and proven work-related results.

- Travelling in the US and to Denmark to be expected.
