Chicago (2 positions)

1. Environment and Food & AgricultureApplication Number: TC-1

The Position

Do you want to be part of a dedicated and ambitious team working to promote Danish products and solutions in the heart of North America? The Trade Council in North America is looking for a highly motivated and self-driven intern to assist Danish water and food & agriculture companies on the U.S. and Canadian markets. The environment and food & agriculture teams assist Danish companies and manufacturers wanting to establish and/or expand their North American activities. We assist with everything from market analysis and stakeholder management to export promotion and sales activities.

 

As part of our teams, you will be an integrated part of the daily work, and you will be involved in exciting projects promoting export from Denmark to North America. You will assist our industry specialists within both water and agribusiness as well as having the opportunity to participate in case solving and project planning. As our intern, you will be an important contributor on our projects while gaining an in depth understanding of the North American industry conditions by working with Danish companies exporting sustainable solutions.

 

Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in conducting market analysis
  • Data collection
  • Connecting Danish and American companies and stakeholders
  • Planning and executing seminars, workshops and delegations
  • Supporting business development projects
  • Administrative tasks, which also include helping out with our daily routines

 

The Candidate

  • You are enrolled at a higher educational institution focusing on business, economics, or similar

2. Market Entry and Energy Transition Advisory. Application Number: TC-2.

The Position

The Trade Council in North America is looking for a highly motivated and qualified intern to assist Danish companies in entering the U.S. and Canadian markets. As an intern at the Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago, you will be an integrated part of the Energy Transition and Market Entry Advisory teams’ daily work and activities supporting Danish companies in the North American market.

You will be linked to one of our industry specialists, and gain valuable knowledge of how to conduct business in the U.S. You will work with Danish exports across sectors in the Market Entry Advisory team. In the Energy Transition team, you will be involved with promoting Danish green hydrogen and Power-to-X solutions from day one. You will be included as an important contributor on relevant projects, and achieve a deep understanding of the dynamics in the North American energy market.

Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Market Analysis
  • Connecting with American stakeholders and Danish companies in both public and private sector
  • Supporting business development projects
  • Data collection 
  • Supporting public affairs activities  
  • Supporting the management team in day to day activities 
  • Administrative tasks, which also include helping out with our daily routines

You will be hired as a part of the Trade Department at the Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago, and be included in the Consulate General’s staff team consisting of 15 employees.

The Candidate

  • You are enrolled at a higher educational institution focusing on Business, Economics, Finance or similar. However, we are open for profiles with other academic backgrounds
  • Fluency in Danish and English (oral and written) is required 
  • Comfortable office package (PowerPoint, Excel & Word) skills are expected
  • The candidate should possess an independent drive along with a positive attitude when engaging in new tasks
  • The ideal candidate should have a high level of personal integrity and creativity while possessing curiosity and drive
  • Being open, credible and observant are important personal characteristics
  • As the pace of the work will fluctuate, the candidate should be able to maintain a clear perspective and focus in stressful situations

 

Interns are responsible for own expenses, i.e. plane tickets and renting of rooms or apartments. The Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago provides 4,000 DKK/month towards documented rental costs.



Houston (2 positions)

 1. Renewable Energy. Application Number: TC-3

The Position

As a Renewable Energy intern, you will join a team of commercial advisors working to support Danish companies within the renewable energy industry in North America. Based at the Consulate General in Houston, you will work with sectors such as On- and Offshore wind, Power-to-X & Hydrogen, Biogas, and Green Maritime & Ports across several states. The energy team consists of colleagues at our other missions in Chicago, New York, Toronto, and Washington, D.C., with whom we actively collaborate on export and trade promotion. Your core colleagues will be a small team in Houston consisting of result-oriented commercial advisors who provide business development services for Danish companies through an extensive network of industry alliances and individual business development assignments.

 

Houston is the fourth largest - and most diverse - city in the US, located in the warm climate of southern Texas. The city is the energy capital of the world based on its roots in the traditional oil and gas industry. At the same time, Texas is a leading state in the U.S. in wind energy and hydrogen production. Therefore, it is at the very heart of the ongoing energy transition in the United States, which offers an opportunity like nowhere else to experience a broad spectrum of energy businesses, work at the centre of the global and North American green transition, and network with the leading players of the energy industry.

 

Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Market research, analysis and monitoring, incl. mapping of stakeholders, competitors, potential partners, etc.;
  • Assisting with business development and execution of market strategies for Danish companies;
  • Supporting commercial advisors on larger projects, whether events and delegations in Denmark or North America, market research and analyses, or public communication campaigns;
  • Supporting GPA (Global Public Affairs) work with local authorities and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Lead generation and outreach to Danish and American customers by phone and email;
  • Assisting in administrative work and daily routines; 

 

The Candidate

  • You are enrolled at a higher educational institution focusing on business, economics, international business etc.
  • You are highly motivated and proactive and genuinely interested in understanding and solving the business-related challenges Danish companies face when entering/expanding in the US market.

2. Health & Life ScienceApplication Number: TC-4.

Do you want to help create opportunities and growth for innovative Danish health and life sciences companies? Are you interested in assisting companies in making a difference for our global health care in the world’s largest healthcare market?

As a Health and Life Science intern at the Consulate General in Houston, you will be part of a dynamic and result-oriented team, where we focus on strengthening relations between the Danish innovative life science eco-system and U.S. healthcare sector specifically through the world’s largest medical complex, Texas Medical Center.

You will work actively with Danish life science companies and relevant contacts such as medical doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in the U.S. Our sector focus gives a special possibility to learn and work actively with both trade and export promotions and at the same time experience how the health care eco-system works in an international setting while acquiring competencies within both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Your daily tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Market research, analysis, and monitoring, incl. mapping of stakeholders, competitors, potential partners, etc.
  • Lead generation and outreach to both Danish and American customers.
  • Assisting with business development and execution of market strategies for Danish companies.
  • Playing a key role in supporting and upholding communication with both Danish and American stakeholders.
  • Plan and coordinate events, meetings, and delegations in both Denmark and Texas.
  • Lead the team’s communications related efforts by developing marketing materials, such as videos, program fliers, and our company eBook, as well as updating website, social media etc.
  • Support in GPA (Global Public Affairs).

 

The Health & Life Science intern is:

  • Fluent in English (both oral and written).
  • Motivated, proactive, and has a genuine interest in learning about and researching healthcare markets.
  • Independent, driven and engages in new assignments with a positive attitude. Your responsibilities will cover a wide field from administrative to business related tasks.
  • Enrolled at a higher educational institution focusing on life science, health, medicine, public health, health informatics, business, economics or the like. A background in health science, is an advantage, but not a requirement.

New York (3 positions)

 1. Energy Efficiency. Application Number: TC-5.


The Position

The Trade Council in New York is actively seeking a highly motivated and ambitious intern to join the Energy Efficiency team to work in the areas of sustainable cities and district energy solutions.

As a part of our team, you will be fully integrated into daily operations and be involved in projects and efforts promoting exports from Denmark to North America. You will support our advisors in helping Danish companies gain an understanding of the North American market by delivering market research and intelligence, working on business development initiatives, and executing events.

You will be a part of a dynamic, results-oriented team consisting of ten commercial advisors located in the heart of New York City. The team collaborates across various sectors to maximize synergies and ensure the best value for Danish companies. In September 2024, a significant focus will be organizing side events during the UN General Assembly, where global leaders, Danish ministers, and companies will convene. For this position, existing knowledge of and interest in sustainable technologies, especially in an urban context, energy efficiency and decarbonization efforts is an advantage. Professional experience in one of these areas is a plus.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Research and outreach to relevant US stakeholders 
  • Organization and execution of events and seminars
  • Develop and execute high-quality presentations
  • Conduct research on needed product certifications, approvals, labelling etc.
  • Provide market- and competitor analysis to Danish companies
  • Coordinate export promotion and trips to Denmark for North American interest groups

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program, preferably within a field related to sustainability or energy efficiency.
  • An interest in and knowledge of sustainability principles, especially as it applies to urban environments and/or energy efficiency efforts.
  • A commercial and/or economic background and a thorough understanding of the Danish business environment and strongholds
  • Knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint as well as Analytics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

2. GPA & UN Procurement. Application Number: TC-7.


The Position - 2 positions

The UN & Global Public Affairs intern at the Consulate General in New York will work with some of the largest Danish companies across sectors.

You will be a part of a dynamic, results-oriented trade team consisting of ten commercial advisors located in the heart of New York City. You will assist the part of the team that supports Danish companies in matters regarding the UN. This means creating opportunities for Danish companies to take part in the global conversation about UN and sustainable development. 

As an intern, you become an integrated and integral part of the team assisting in all matters, big or small. This also means periods of high and low load as well as a high variety in assigned tasks. 

In the Trade Council, we work to support the Danish private sector, when it also supports the Danish strategies for economic diplomacy. In the GPA team, the most important task in 2024 will be organizing side events at the UN General Assembly in September. We expect leaders from the entire world, Danish ministers – and the leading global companies to join us in New York for a week. 


Responsibilities

  • Conceptualise and execute high-level events and workshops in New York
  • Assist with the mapping of key stakeholders, the creation of complex meeting programs and briefings as well as providing logistical support to high-level participants
  • Assist with administrative tasks

 
Qualifications

  • A proactive approach to work and a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • An Interest in business and its role in society. In particular, how Danish companies work with sustainability.
  • An understanding and interest for international political relations and the role of economic diplomacy

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor- or Master degree program, preferably within Economics, Law, Business and/or Political Science but we welcome applications from other fields as well.

1. Sustainable Cities and District Energy TC-8.

The Position:

We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified intern to assist our consultancy team within sustainable cities and district energy in Toronto. You will be an integrated part of the team’s daily work, and will be an important contributor on relevant projects. We aim to provide experience in both project management, as well as, exposure to business development for Danish companies who are interested in expanding their business activities across North America. You will achieve a good understanding of the North American market (US and Canada) with both commercial and public affairs assignments. 


Your internship will consist of, but is not limited to:

Washington DC (3 positions)

1. Trade and Export: Energy.Application Number: TC-10.

The Position

As an intern, you will primarily be working with trade relations and export promotion within Waste & Biogas, and Onshore/Offshore Wind but also within the overall framework for Danish-American trade. As the Embassy is responsible for helping Danish companies across all of The United States and Canada, and for coordinating the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commercial effort in the region (North America), you will be an integrated part of the team, and will throughout your internship gain knowledge of: 

  • Research, data collection and presentation of American market conditions and economy within the green transition
  • Possibility to visit and create new contacts to American companies, political institutions and organizations
  • Knowledge about the American corporate world, social conditions and culture
  • Access to the international community in Washington DC and experience the political and economic center first-hand
  • Gain insight on how we work on Denmark’s biggest Embassy

2. Trade and Export: Defense Industry, Health & Life Science, ADBC. Application Number: TC-11.


The Position

The Embassy of Denmark is looking for a highly motivated and qualified intern to assist Danish companies within Defense Industry, the Health & Life Science sectors, but also within the overall framework for Danish-American trade and export promotion. This includes working with the American-Danish Business Council (ADBC), which is a high-level bilateral business association and global public affairs platform for Danish and American companies. ADBC focuses on increasing transatlantic trade and economic development between Denmark and the US. The Embassy is responsible for helping Danish companies across all of The United States and Canada, and for coordinating the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commercial effort in the region (North America). As an Intern, you will be an integrated part of the respective teams, supporting the team’s work for Danish companies and industry organizations. 
 
Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Market research, data collection and stakeholder mapping and engagement
  • Supporting the teams in connecting Danish and American companies and stakeholders

3. Food & Agriculture. Application Number: TC-12.

The Position

The Embassy in Washington DC is looking for an intern to support the work within Food & Agriculture team. The position offers a unique opportunity to work with both political and commercial aspects of the green transition within the food and agricultural sector. You will be an integrated part of the team, and will gain insight into the American Food & Agriculture sector, in a close and educational collaboration with the specialized team. 

Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of reports and analysis for ministries, organizations and companies within Food & Agriculture on relevant political and commercial subjects within the American Food & Agriculture sector
  • Attendance of hearings in the Congress, seminars in think-tanks and meetings in various national and international organizations related to the American agricultural and food industry, with the purpose of reporting about trade- and agricultural politics to relevant Danish authorities and organizations
  • Analyse specific market conditions and market barriers for Danish food companies and assisting with specific commercial cases for Danish companies
  • Assist with administrative and event tasks within the team and at the Embassy
