Business, Tourist and Private Visitor Visas

A Schengen visa is issued for the purpose of a short stay (less than 3 months) in Denmark/Iceland and other Schengen countries.

Due to a high volume of visa applications the expected processing time is 15 days.

Schengen visas are issued by: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Denmark is representing Iceland in New York and Chicago.

You have to apply for the Schengen visa at the Embassy/Consulate of your MAIN destination. The MAIN destination is the country where you are staying the longest time or where the main purpose of the trip is carried out.

If your intention is to travel to several Schengen countries without having a MAIN destination  and you will be staying the same amount of time in each country, you must apply for the Schengen visa at the Embassy/Consulate of the point of entry into Schengen.

How to apply:

Visa applicants must register their application online through the Visa Self Service Denmark. Upon registration and payment of the visa fee the applicant must print out the Visa Self Service Cover Letter and submit it with the required documents on the checklist. No two-sided copies are allowed.

Please select the checklist that matches the purpose of your visit and make sure you collect all the mandatory documents:

Business visa checklist

Private visitor visa checklist

Tourist visa checklist

The visa officer may request additional documents at any time.

If supporting documents are not presented promptly, your application upon examination may be refused and the visa fee lost.

If you have had your biometrics recorded after June 1, 2014 in North America with the specific purpose of obtaining a Schengen visa, we may be able to reuse the fingerprints for a new application.

If you fulfil the requirements to mail in your application, from May 1, 2017 you can mail it to any of the VFS Global locations in the US.

When mailing your application to VFS Global, please include the following items in addition to the documentation listed on the above appropriate checklist:

• One most recent passport photo (no more than 90 days old).
• A colored copy of the latest visa with your biometrics.
• A money order or certified check made out to VFS Services USA Inc. in the amount of $63 (New York)/$93 (all other locations), which covers VFS Global's administrative fee as well as return shipping. Please note that personal checks are not accepted.

Please be aware that the Consulate General reserves the right to ask the applicant for personal appearance in New York.
