Student permit

If you wish to apply for a residence permit as a student, both you and the educational institution in Denmark must supply information for the processing of your application.

Where to apply:

All applications will be handled by the Danish Consulate General in New York.

The fee to either the Danish Immigration Service (DIS) or the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) does not include the services provided by the Danish Consulate General in New York.

The fee to the Danish Consulate General must be paid through the webshop (https://dys.um.dk/permit/). Remember to bring the receipt of the payment, when showing up at the Visa Application Centre. The application will not be handled without the payment to the Consulate General. 

Please note that besides the fee to DIS or SIRI and the fee to the Danish Consulate General, there is an additional service fee of US30 when you hand in your application at the Visa Application Centre.


The Consulate General advises against making any final travel arrangements, particularly purchase of non-refundable air tickets for a specific date, prior to approval of your application.

Since online submission of applications require biometrics to be obtained within 2 weeks from the online submission it is recommended to obtain an appointment with VFS Global prior to the online submission of the application since it can take up to 14 days to obtain an appointment with VFS Global.
