Waste, Recycling and Biogas Advisory

The Trade Council in North America customizes solutions for companies within all phases of the biogas value chain.

Americans generate all-in-all 254 million tons of waste every year, and more than 50% of it ends up at the states’ disposal sites. However, this is set to change in the coming years as mega cities all over the U.S. increase their focus on circular economy and the green transition. Furthermore, disposal tipping fees are increasing, especially in the eastern parts of the U.S., which have created a market for transportation of waste between states. This is not sustainable and it costs billions of dollars to dispose the large amounts of waste. In order to better utilize waste, there is a need for sorting, recycling and extracting the organic fractions.

In parallel, and in response to stricter regulations at the federal and state levels, farmers must optimize manure management and nutrients recovery to limit GHG emissions and ground water pollutions. This creates a market for anaerobic digestion whereby animal waste is used as feedstock to produce energy in the form of heat and electricity, renewable natural gas or transportation fuel. Apart from energy, biogas production generates digestate, which can be used as nutrient-rich fertilizer, thereby reducing the need for artificial fertilizer.

Danish companies have extensive experience in waste handling to energy solutions and biogas production. The increasing focus on utilizing different sources of waste, (e.g. animal waste, food waste, and wastewater sludge) in the U.S. represents great export potential for Danish companies within the Waste, Recycling and Biogas sector.

The Waste, Recycling and Biogas Advisory (WBA) is established to support Danish companies’ export efforts in North America. WBA offers a wide range of advisory services from highly customized individual engagements, to alliance structures that enable our Danish clients to more effectively achieve corporate objectives by combining their competencies to create a more compelling and competitive value proposition.
