About Bruun Hyldig Duo
Ever since Hetna Regitze Bruun and Kristoffer Hyldig first met at the 2006 annual summer course organized by The Danish Song Society, they have been working together continuously as a duo – especially with a focus on spreading the knowledge of Oliver Messiaen´s music. They have already succeeded greatly in this by giving concerts all over Denmark and Europe, e.g. Italy, Germany, UK, France and Scandinavia.
They released their first CD with NAXOS in 2009 featuring the song cycle “Harawi” by O. Messiaen with great success and worldwide critical acclaim in music magazines. Furthermore, their CD was nominated in the vocal category on P2, a classical radio channel run by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation. Moreover, in 2010 they released another CD “Skønne perler” (“Beautiful pearls”) with NAXOS, containing songs by Danish composers from the 20th century.
Other repertoire includes lieder by Schubert, Strauss, Mahler, Poulenc, Debussy and Duparc. In 2014 they will release another CD with NAXOS International presenting more vocal music by Messiaen.
The Duo will perform at American University, Katzen Arts Center | 4400 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC at 8 p.m. Free admission.
The Press wrote
“The Bruun Hyldig Duo has appeared mainly in Denmark, and has toured outside the country to some extent, but deserves a lot more international exposure on the evidence of this performance in Leeds.”
- Bachtrack, Richard Wilcocks on 10th October 2011
”Bruun Hyldig is moving all the way to the edge of the stage to show all they have got – plainly and with no blurring effects. All musical surfaces are completely clear, so their talents are able to shine through ruthlessly. The two musicians meet the challenge with impressive authority.”
- Henrik Friis, Politiken, 19. January 2010.
“An impressive debut”
- The Gramophone, April 2010.
“The experience of listening to Bruun’s voice is stimulating […] is blessed with a pianist. Kristoffer Hyldig who provides a technically impeccable and emotionally generous partnership for soprano Hetna Regitze Bruun”
- William R. Braun, Opera News, Marts 2010.
“Hetna Regitze Bruun’s range and expressive power is remarkable […] Hetna Regitze Bruun and Kristoffer Hyldig are a powerful duo, and Hyldig certainly pulls no punches.”
- Dominy Clements, Music Web International, April 2010.
“Hetna Regitze Bruun and Kristoffer Hyldig prove to be fine advocates of Messiaen’s music: Hyldig displays a sure touch and a keen sense of colour, while Bruun has the range of expression and the vocal clout to convey both the radiant and the unsettling aspects of Messiaen’s fevered imagination. Nor is she lacking in beauty, with exquisite stillness in L’amour de Piroutcha”.
