The Danish Ambassador spoke of sustainable energy at the Green Cup Polo

In order to raise the awareness of climate change, renewable energy and resources conservation, the Danish Embassy in Washington D.C has this year partnered with the 6th annual Green Cup Polo in Maryland.

The Green Cup Polo, a beneficial polo match aiming to raise funds for green non-profit organizations, took place Saturday September 8 at the Capitol Polo Club in Poolesville MD and was attended by Danish Ambassador Peter Taksøe-Jensen who held a speech at the opening of the event. 

In his speech, the Ambassador stressed the importance of sustainable energy and spoke of Denmark’s goals in terms of replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources.

He for instance spoke of how district heating and power, energy savings requirements for energy companies, energy efficient buildings and recycling of waste together contribute to the fact that Denmark ranks among the most energy efficient countries in the world.

The Danish government has lately set out an ambitious goal, the so-called 2050-strategy, where Denmark’s entire energy supply is supposed to be covered by renewable energy in 2050.

At the end of the Ambassador’s speech he underlined that green technology is not only a question of doing the right thing, it is simply smart economics.
