Welcome to the Embassy of Denmark. Come experience our small country of ‘Hygge’ and meet happy Danes – including a Viking - for a talk about our culture and lifestyle. Learn about Green Copenhagen, Smart Cities and Sustainable solutions, play with Lego, ride a bike, tour the Ambassador’s residence and much more!

Ambassador’s Residence Tour: Tour our ambassador’s home – a mid-century architectural gem showcasing unique contemporary works from the Danish art scene.Tours run from 10am – 3:40pm and you need to get a time-stamped ticket as you enter our grounds. The tour is free of charge.

WIN lots of fun prizes such as Danish butter cookies, t-shirts and a children’s bike. Stop by our bike booth for a bike ride Copenhagen style! Kids aged 4 - 7 may enter to win a new bike! At our Copenhagen Solutions exhibit, you can build your own 'green' Denmark out of LEGO, and when you post a photo of your creation on Twitter or Instagram using #DKinUSA.

Story Time: Stop by our history booth and listen to fairy tales of H. C. Andersen’s told by Danes dressed in old folk costumes!

Meet Danish Companies in the USA: Visit our colleagues from the Trade Department to learn about the strong trade relationship between Denmark and the United States. Hear about their daily efforts to promote Danish export to the U.S. and how they assist Danish companies in the U.S. within a range of different sectors. The American-Danish Business Council (ADBC), which works to promote trade and investment between the US and Denmark, will also be present.
Planning a trip to Denmark?: Stop by VisitDenmark and get great ideas of what to see on your travels! At the VisitDenmark booth you can sample Danish butter cookies from Kelsen and you might meet a real Viking....

About EU Open House: The Delegation of the European Union to the United States and the embassies of the 28 EU Member States to the United States will open their doors to the Washington public during the EU Embassies’ Open House Day. This annual event is a highlight of the Washington May calendar and is celebrated during Europe Week. Each embassy will open to the public, offering a rare look inside the buildings and providing a unique opportunity to experience the country’s cultural heritage and national traditions.

Additional information: The Embassy of Denmark will once again invite Washington-area residents and visitors to experience the diversity and richness of Danish culture. From 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (last tour of the Residence starts at 3.40pm), visitors will get a rare behind-the-scenes look at Washington’s first modern embassy.

There will be bus service from Dupont Circle with stop at the bottom of Whitehaven Street. Go to the EU Open House website to see the bus routes and plan your trip.

The Embassy grounds are accessible to wheelchairs. Tours of the Ambassador’s residence involves flights of stairs. Photography is allowed on the Embassy grounds with the exception of the Ambassador’s residence.
