Meet the Consul General

Consul General in Chicago, Jakob Skaarup Nielsen

Consul General Jakob Skaarup Nielsen has been posted in Chicago since August 2018. He has been with the Danish Foreign Services for more than 15 years, and being Consulate General in the Windy City is his fifth official assignment, having previously spent longer periods of time in Asia and Bruxelles.

"Working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, I have travelled near and far. It is safe to say that Chicago is truly is something special. The city is a true metropolis that combines unique architecture with forward-thinking sustainability solutions and a vibrant music, theater, shopping and sports scene", says Consul General Nielsen.

Denmark and Chicago shares a long, common history, and the first Danish settlers arrived more than a decade ago. Today, a lot of Danes still reside in the second largest city in the U.S.

"Given our shared past, I feel very priviledged to be here and to collaborate with the city in those areas where Chicago and Denmark share interests; in the food and agriculture sectors, in green energy and climate adaption and within the performing arts".

Jakob Skaarup Nielsen holds a Master degree in Economics, Business Administration and Commercial Law from Aarhus University, School of Business.
